After our first 8-week European trip we return home to start our UK Winter motorhoming experience. With Christmas approaching we head to the Lake District, a UNESCO heritage site, to catch up with friends and family and stay on two different campsites in and around Keswick. As we begin our Winter Motorhoming series, here's our review of both Keswick sites. Keswick is a lovely town to visit at any time of the year- a bit chilly when we were there and still quite busy on the lead up to Christmas
This week we continue our first UK winter motorhoming journey in the North West of England. We are investigating how much we need to spend on a campsite to get good value for money. Last week we stopped at sites for £20-30/night. This week we have dropped the budget to £15/16/night to see what we get. We are learning as we go.
In this week's vlog we've reduced our nightly budget to under £10 to find out what we can get for our money in Cumbria. With the awful winter weather giving us wet and chilly days and nights, we leave the comfort of campsites behind and find out what else is on offer for motorhomes in beautiful Cumbria.
We've just checked out the four official free overnight parkups for self-contained campers/motorhomes in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. These have given us the chance to explore Walney Island and Barrow, which we thoroughly enjoyed and we will visit again very soon.
We arrived in Ingleton in the Yorkshire Dales during January 2023's cold temperatures. Expecting to walk the waterfalls trail we were thwarted by the icy weather and instead, discovered that there is more to Ingleton than just the waterfalls. With friendly locals, good food and beautiful countryside, Ingleton is a little gem. We found 4 different motorhome and campervan stopovers at a variety of prices to suit any budget. Ingleton is not to be missed and will be one we return to many times more.
UK winter can be a very wet and cold place and this is our first winter travelling in our motorhome. We didn't know what to expect, but despite the winter weather we've loved winter vanlife for many reasons. In this video, we share our experiences at 5 new-to-us campsites/stopovers, ranging from £10-24.50 in the north of England (with a quick nip over the border into Scotland. Jan/Feb 2023
March 2023: As the days start to get longer we've been exploring Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve, staying at the free aire-style campsite provided by the Caerlaverock estate. With amazing scenery, wildlife, wetlands and a castle, this was a fabulous place to spend 2 nights for a donation of £10. The site has water, grey and black waste too. We also found 2 more free stopovers nearby which we will be back to soon.
