Over the last few years we've had a number of travelling homes, each one bought to serve a specific purpose.
We've loved everyone of them (at the time) and look forward to trying out many more in the future (Andrew eventually wants to live on the water, but I'm not convinced!)
After 12 months of waiting we got our first motorhome in October 2022. We've splashed out on a new one, as this (hopefully) will be the one and only motorhome we'll ever have.
We choice this model as we wanted a fixed bed, large wardrobe and liked the more spacious kitchen layout because the bathroom is at the rear. It also sleeps 4, with hidden passenger seats under the lounge seating which means we can make the most of the space when there are only 2 of us, but take passengers when we want to.
We've added an extra battery, solar panels, alarm and tracker, winter pack, external socket, Omnivent, roll out awning, Hypnos mattress and mobile internet and WiFi system.

We decided to buy a demountable camper at it served two purposes: the truck that carried it could be used as an everyday vehicle and then when we wanted to travel we could just stick the camper on the back and away we'd go. The camper bit can then demount on a site if needed and the truck can be used on its own.
We researched and bought a second-hand one from the manufacturer for £9000 in Sept 2013 and bought a second hand Nissan Navara. We'd only had two trips out over the winter, when a drunken driver wrote our Navara off as it was parked on the drive in Feb 2014. We were gutted and had to search for another Navara with very little budget to play with. We eventually found another and set off on our big trip to the Orkney Islands in May 2015, only for disaster to strike on the furthest point away from home- the chassis of the Navara snapped. At around this time we became aware of a bigger issue with the chassis of Navara's of this age and wouldn't buy another. We couldn't afford anything newer either so the camper sat in storage until we sold it on in 2016.

Part way through our Eurosully 2007-8 grand European tour we decided to buy a caravan as abetter way to travel more flexibly with the girls. We still had 9 months of our 12-month trip to do and couldn't afford a motorhome.
There were so many different caravan layouts to choose from, given the time we had (2days), finding the perfect one for our journey seemed a daunting task. We eventually found a two year-old 5 berth Lunar Chateau 500 at Barrons, with fixed bunks at the back, a small dinette and a dining area that makes up as a double bed. We liked the idea of keeping the bunks made up all the time for the girls, and if we wanted to keep ours made up as a bed we still had a dining area, albeit small. It also gives us two table areas, which will be handy for the four of us. Loads of storage and we bought an awning too.
We really loved the caravan but weren't able to make use of it when we got back from the trip so we sold it.
You can pick up our caravan travels as we headed out to Norway for the first time here.
